"The City of Newport is taking an important first step in doing its part to solve global warming," said Chris Wilhite, Program Manager for Sierra Club's Rhode Island Chapter. "Residents, businesses, governments -- all have a role to play and we must start right now to make different, better decisions about the energy we use at home, at work and as a nation." The resolution cites other cities that are reducing "global warming pollutants through programs that provide economic and quality of life benefits such as reduced energy bills, green space preservation, air quality improvements, reduced traffic congestion, improved transportation choices, and economic development and job creation through energy conservation and new energy technologies." ### |
